Jules Gervais-Courtellemont (d.1931), a French born photographer and traveller, who grew up in Algeria. In 1894 Jules became a Muslim and adopted the name Abdullah and probably the firs French covert to Islam to perform the Hajj pilgrimage.

During his Hajj pilgrimage, Jules, risking his life took pictures of worshipers in the two holy sanctuaries and of the sanctuaries itself. I will be sharing some of his pictures in the next coming posts.
